Beef Shawarma

Homemade Shawarma

Shawarma on Cheat day. Yay!

Dry summer days are finally here, the past few days have been nothing but pure HEAT, blistering heat I should say. I thought of adding more heat to my day as I dance with sweat and the tweeting of the birds. The creamy and garlicky sauce of Shawarma, the exotic flavors of Mediterranean and the hot and spicy goodness are what got me going through the day amid the blistering heat.

Palitaw or Inday Inday

rice dumpling or palitaw

One of Ilonggo’s favorite snack or merienda is Inday Inday or what is called Palitaw in Tagalog and rice dumpling in English. Food vendors in the streets and those who go to offices have their baskets with this common Filipino snack made of sticky rice dipped in grated coconut and topped with sesame seeds and white sugar, or in Ilonggo style However, it is best to top it with muscovado sugar.

Recipe: Palitaw, Inday Inday or Rice Dumpling

Ingredients

  1. 1 kilo sticky rice
  2. 3 cups water
  3. 1 and a half cups of water for soaking
  4. 1 coconut
  5. sesame seeds (optional)
  6. white sugar(optional)
  7. muscovado sugar

Instructions

  1. Bring the 3 cups of water to a boil
  2. wash sticky rice
  3. soak sticky rice for 3 hours

  5. take a teaspoonful of dough and flatten it with your hands

The Best Gotong Batangas

Rudy’s Gotong Batangas is definitely one of Lipa City’s pride, if no one has declared it yet, well, I am declaring it.

Rudy’s Gotong Batangas is a personal favorite. If you are visiting Lipa City, try to drop by at Rudy’s Goto along National road. You will not regret it. It’s not your typical Goto with rice, it’s a beef broth with tripe, innards and beef meat. It is spiced with ground black pepper, chopped onions, chopped spring onions, and fried garlic bits. Best served hot with chili as a personal preference of Loco Foodie.
